David King
Coming from a badminton family, I was introduced to a badminton court from a very young age. I was aged 8 when I started receiving coaching, loved it and then saw badminton become my main sport. From there, I got the chance to play for Sussex County Juniors and then aged 11, I represented my country for the first time which was a super proud moment.
I was lucky enough to be part of the England Junior Badminton setup throughout my junior career. This took me to some amazing places around the world, playing against some incredible players and getting coached by a variety of coaches.
The highlights of my junior career were getting a bronze medal in the singles at the Under 17 European Junior Championships and playing for England at two World junior championships in Malaysia and Peru.
At a senior level I got to a world ranking high of 108 in Mens doubles. It was an incredible experience to travel the world whilst at University, playing Badminton and exploring different countries and cultures.
I chose to take a step back from playing during university to focus on finishing my degree though I did continue developing my coaching in parallel. I became Head Coach at Shuttlers Academy which allowed me to work with the next generation of keen Badminton players.
In addition to my degree in Sports and Exercise Science I also have a Level 3 Qualification in Personal Training and Sports Massage Therapy. These have all helped me understand how the body can be further developed to improve Badminton performance.
